The sun has never been brighter
and has the air any lighter.
The naked tree stands daunting
as if Death’s by the side waiting.

Out loud and proud I sing to the marching song,
yet inside softly pondering ‘where do I belong?’
I feel the weight of my boots against the ground
as salty-sea sweat drips with each forceful pound.

I’m soaked through and through in my vest
knowing that this is just like any other test.
What doesn’t kill me makes me stronger:
Pain shall not prevail any longer.

My eyes open to the wonders of Life
whilst my body’s constantly at strife:
The spirit to survive; with every breath
Life slowly but surely triumphs over Death.

Everyday is just another sunrise and sunset,
all the agony I shall simply let die and forget.
I’ll just watch the birds and the planes fly by
as I wait patiently for Time to pass by.

How will I respond to the battle cry?
Where will my integrity lie?
Will I rise to the sound of the war drum?
All will be known in Time to come.

Die Trying

Sometimes I try so hard
and everything just breaks apart,
as if things cannot get any worse.
Remember the story of King Midas’ curse:
whatever he touches turns into gold.
Well, mine turns into mold.
Wise men say: You reap what you sow.
Last time I checked, disappointment was all I know.
I’m sick of finding myself unveiling failure’s disguise.
I’m sick of the World watching my graceless demise.
So I ask myself why, why do I keep trying
when I know my dreams will end up dying?
The motivations that I’ve conjured up in my head
(my “bright future” and blah blah blah) will soon be dead.
In a matter of time, before the break of dawn
all my faith and hope will be going, going, gone.

To answer my question, I guess that’s how foolish I’m:
die trying for your love, is worth the reason and rhyme.

Frank

So Frank sits waiting and waiting,
waiting for Love to board the bus.
His hope as bright as the sun,
so is his glittering golden smile,
as he stares out of the window
thinking, “She’ll be perfect.”

Frank has never seen Love,
but he knows her by that name.
He has it all perfectly planned out
just for him and her.
He can’t help imagining and wishing
and thinking, “Someday.”

As Frank passes the hundredth stop,
the clear blue turns into coal black—
yet again, Love’s nowhere in sight.
His smile grows long and weary—
his heart's still empty.
Poor Frank wonders, “Why?”

Time the bus driver finally speaks,
“You’ve been around for nineteen years
and you might still be for another sixty—
Why not just enjoy the ride?”
Frank turns away from the window
and to his right: a warm smile.

What Doesn't Kill You Makes You Stronger

The faceless ghost—
as dark as the eye can see,
brother of the shadows,
blotted out a thousand suns—
has stomach of a black hole,
devoured a million moons
and feasted on a billion stars.

The Light, has been put out!
The End, has come!

But there—
a Northern scarlet star
falls from the onyx skies
(the azure trail—
a beautiful scar)
and in a heartbeat—
a supernova.

The perpetual light—
as bright as the eye can see,
has rekindled the quivering flame
of a hopeless heart—
and sapphire blazing fire
rush through the frigid veins:
I am now my own golden sun!

And my reign of terror—
has just begun…

Let it rain.
The storm shall be my heart—
its colour unmatched to that of the crow's feather
or even the inside of a black hole.
Lightning, the devil's fork struck my heart asunder
and yet, no groaning of the thunder can be heard
only splintered clouds show the wounds,
wounds that I thought would never heal.
Let it rain. I say.

What's that?
A twinkle in the sky— bright sparks
pulsate through my veins
and electrify her way into the heart.
Alive! I shout. Awe-struck.

A gentle wind so merciful clears the sky
so clean that there's no clue of a scar
and the Moon with such bravery
confronts the lightning—
the devil stands no chance against her will.
The golden moonlight from above
radiates beyond the depth of the ocean
and touches the bedrock that's once so cold,
as cold as prison walls can be.

Ah, my soul's finally been liberated!
How can I be ever grateful?
For all my heart and soul knows that
the stars, the wind and the Moon— are you.

which redefines extraordinary

(4) A pinch of pungent wit
the rhyme scheme can omit
so long as the words fit
into the luscious masterpiece

Even if Shakespeare has to admit
that the ingredients are hard to find,
there's still no harm having a go at it

The Droplet

The tiny droplet, born from the cloud's womb,
falls gracefully through thick layers of air
and lands on a place he doesn't know where
nor what his life could possibly foredoom.
He looks down, lost and overwhelmed with fear.
His instinct whispers, "Live on," and these brief
words push him— he slides down leaf after leaf
without directions— everything's unclear.
Upon the edge of the leaf, he holds on
as tightly as he could until no more.
The river washes him away from shore
and into the vast sea: it's been foregone!

His instinct is drowned by the supreme sea,
and perhaps he's now as helpless— as me.

Another heart asunder.
Another sorrowful soul
in the melancholic streets.
In this cursed life,
he can only weep inside

This straitjacket feeling

There are doubts that never die

You are always in a distance,
when I see you, I'll hide first—
a hopeless coward nevertheless;

so all I can do is guess
as if I'm playing a mind game
that seems to have no end—

and if a game it really is
I would have lost dozens of times,
pondering over it through days and nights.

You are unpredictable and elusive
and in every way far beyond ordinary;

and your smile is so rare to find
that it'll forever haunt my mind.

How can you not be special
when you're unique in every angle?

Time inevitably changes young to old
but the feeling will remain intact.

Difficulties are what most people fear.
Well, that's what I hear.
I know rumours are not reliable,
But they can be incredible.
So I decided to find out the truth,
And guess what? It's true!
I kept asking myself why
It's so difficult to fly?
Birds can fly incredibly high
Why can't I?
I tried all kind of ways
Yet all of them failed.
Every failure has now become another fear
So many doubts I couldn't clear.
Now, my dream to fly has been shattered,
Overwhelmed by my difficulties -- my fear.
Time has passed yet my fear is still living inside me.
This fear is just like a cage,
Preventing me from breaking free.
I'm sick of living in this cage!
I screamed in extreme rage.
I stood up, clenching my fist.
I longed to be free.
I decided to face the difficulties -- man's greatest fear.
Hoping that an angel is near.
I summoned all my courage and
Attempted to fly.
And you know what? I did it!
I cried.
I've no idea how I did it, but somehow,
Somehow I just did it.
I've managed to overcome my difficulties -- my fear.

Life is just like a never-ending road.
There are countless twists and turns,
you'll never know where it'll lead you.

Sometimes you'll find yourself at a forked road,
stopping, hesitating which route to take.
In life, choices can often put you in great dilemma.

While climbing mountains to reach the other side of the road,
you may stumble upon steep slopes frequently,
but you have to get back on your feet and move on.

Despite all of these obstacles,
you'll still have to overcome them someway, somehow.
Be brave and you'll discover what's at the end of the road.

Karma, I believe, is what you get and give in return.
Spread your love to the world and they'll do the same.
Together, we can fill our lives with wonders.

Life is a one-way ticket, please keep that in mind.
There is no turning back or reversing
and time travelling certainly doesn't exist.

Let's all appreciate our lives
and don't take things for granted
for LIFE is the greatest gift we ever have.

Jig-saw puzzles in the crimson sky

Starting to fall piece by piece so high.

Concretes and bricks once sturdy crumble,

Myriad of debris big and small begin to tumble.

Plants wither hastily in the sick green rain,

Leaves flutter to the rotten ground in sheer vain.

Gravelled earth strong and firm shakes relentlessly violent

Yet the entire catastrophe is bewilderingly silent,

As sounds in any form suck into the abyss—

Its unutterable power will undoubtedly persist.

Not even a zephyr carries the slightest hope

For me to realise what I can surely cope.

My world is just starting to tear apart

And I already have fallen down too far!

Heaving sighs of my heavy load
As my body enfeebles day by day.
I can no longer feel my feet
Bearing on this gloomy blight,
And the dry air cuts my throat deep
So deep that it bleeds inside.
The tremendous pain I couldn't feel,
In this ever stagnant world
Where time will never let it heal.

Here I am, still on this forked road
With my mind fragmented into one,
Making my head spins and floats
As blended feelings leave me undone.
The atmosphere increases its pressure,
And my breath is getting heavier
So heavy that I can't even measure.
My heart palpitates angrier
Than a soul can fathom the rhythm—
The sound that utters thousands of words—
For which they are deprived of freedom.
